Michael's
first carving, commissioned in 1973, opened the door to a whole new career
for him. Starting with signs and plaques, he learned the simple techniques
while farming and building a house near Perth, Ontario. By 1980
he had committed to woodcarving as a livelihood and for the past 19 years,
has sought new challenges in the field of carving. Michael has
kept the job exciting by developing skills in all areas of carving in
hard and
soft woods as well as in stone.
Twenty years in the Riverguild
Craft Cooperative and ten years in the craft show circuit, have built a client
base that now keep him busy with commissions year round. His main products are
intricately carved floral mirror frames and lifelike
wildlife relief panels. He also carves delicate jewelry, furniture inspired
by art nouveau and has even carved a 9-foot grizzly bear.
