Woodturner,
Furniture Maker

In
a large workshop in the Perth area, Dunn works on his beautiful custom
designed furniture as well as his artistic wood sculptures and turnings.
Clients may come with a specific design in mind, or sometimes just
an idea and the concept is realized using his skills which draw upon
his twenty-six years of professional woodworking experience. Drawn
to the subtle beauty in a variety of wood grains, he has learned
to emphasize this to advantage in his furniture. Meticulously finished
and highly figured birdseye or curly maple are often used.

Rocking
chairs are a specialty. "I designed these chairs over a period
of years. My goal was to build a rocking chair that could be used
comfortably for a long period of time. The final successful ergonomic
form evolved as I learned through observation and experimentation.
I have combined this comfort with a design that shows the wood to
its best advantage. The sturdy construction and clean, strong look
result in a beautiful heritage rocking chair that will last for generations."

The
turned bowls and hand-carved forms are other aspects of Dunn's work
which allow him to explore the organic nature of wood. Burls, stumps
and highly figured wood are the raw materials used to create these
pieces, which are both decorative and functional.

Turned
wooden sinks with and above counter mount system are a new
and successful item which has recently been added . The wood
used is Curly Maple. A clear and completely waterproof epoxy is used
to
protect
the wood.
Polished to a glowing lustre, the highly figured wood grain is almost
three dimensional in it's look. No upkeep other than occasional wiping
is necessary.
